Conservatives: Winning Here!

Thursday, 23 June, 2011

Today, David Herne, a proud local Conservative made history by achieving election to the Morpeth Town Council representing the Morpeth South Ward, becoming the first Conservative on the council. Elsewhere, the Conservatives won a landslide victory against the Liberal Democrat's Kate Morrison in the Amble West ward.

Some seemed to think that the election result was a foregone conclusion, but the Conservative's resilience and hard work paid off as residents of the Morpeth South ward said yes to change and yes to a better deal for Morpeth residents.

Councillor Herne pledged that from now on local people will be the forefront of priorities and he said a shake-up of the Liberal-run town council administration was about to come. This was met with key support on the doorsteps as local residents voiced concern of the council's disregard for the concerns of the town's residents, highlighted by the removal of local shopper's parking passes, the increased cost of burying loved ones on council land and the new tax on charity donations a council collection sites.

The two victories across the county's two by-elections is a true sign of support for the Conservatives across the county, and is widely tipped as a precursor to a surge in support ahead of the county-wide elections in 2013.

The Conservative candidate Dave Herne would like to thank all those who voted for him, whom he is now proud to represent.
